Moroccan Expat in Catalonia Criticizes Compatriots' Defense of Migrant Crime

A Moroccan residing in Catalonia denounces a certain hypocrisy of his compatriots regarding the situation of Moroccan migrants who are sometimes accused of sowing chaos in this region. In a TikTok video, he stated that if the situation were reversed and Spanish migrants committed criminal acts in Morocco, they would be chased away "with stones and kicks."

Moroccans residing in Catalonia are involved in several criminal acts. Recently, a video of a knife attack in the center of Barcelona, which went viral on social media, sparked outrage among Catalan internet users. "They have transformed Catalonia into a third-world country," some lamented. Members of the Moroccan community in Catalonia reacted to these comments, accusing Spaniards of racism, reports La Razon.

In a TikTok video, Moroccan Tarik Chekrouni denounced the "hypocrisy" of his compatriots on this issue. "Really, stop being so hypocritical and defending the indefensible," said Tarik, who asks to imagine what would happen if it were the other way around. "All Moroccans know perfectly well that if the current situation in Spain occurred in Morocco, if Spaniards came en masse to Morocco and most of them came to commit crimes, we wouldn’t take a second to throw them all out with stones and kicks," he stated in his video, which has already recorded 1.5 million views.

He added: "We would be the most racist people in the world. More Moroccans will take to social media to denounce this situation because we would be the first to be harmed. The ’amego, un segarro’ (friend, a cigarette) does not represent me, I want them to return to their country. Stop being stupid and pathetic, let’s talk about this reality once and for all, let’s have some common sense."

Many Spaniards and Moroccans commented on the Moroccan’s video. "Tarik, you are an example," "Moroccans like you will always be welcome," are among the reactions from Spaniards. "You’re right, brother! My father has been here for 40 years and he tells me there was no racism in Spain," commented a Moroccan. Moroccans constitute the largest foreign community in Spain, with nearly 1,100,000 people, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
