Moroccan Executive Houria Ech Chaibi Named President of Umivale Activa Mutual Insurance

The Moroccan Houria Ech Chaibi, representative of Mercadona, has been appointed president of the Umivale Activa mutual by the board of directors of the institution, which met on Friday, September 30.

Houria Ech Chaibi, director of the Health and Prevention Service at Mercadona, replaces Álvaro Murga Tomé, director of human resources and representative of Iberdrola Spain at the head of the mutual. She thus becomes the second woman to lead the institution, after Silvia Ruiz Barceló, representative of Banco Santander (2012-2013).

Mercadona takes over the presidency of the mutual in application of the rotating presidency between the main entities represented on the Board of Directors. Banco Santander, BBVA, SEAT and Iberdrola will hold the vice-presidencies. During her term, Mercadona will work to position itself as a national reference in the field of occupational health.

Born in Bouznika in 1986, Houria Ech Chaibi holds a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Seville. After more than five years as medical manager at Mercadona, she was promoted in 2020 to director of the Health and Prevention Service where she led a team of over 145 people. She ensured the health and safety of more than 96,000 workers.
