Moroccan Event Industry Seeks Government Aid Amid Pandemic Crisis

Since the start of the pandemic, event professionals have made proposals to the government for a way out of the crisis. Among other things, they are calling for sustained support from the public authorities to enable them to survive, according to a study launched by the GPPEM and conducted by the VQ Cabinet.
According to the professionals, this support concerns the strengthening of support for employees, taking into account the scale of salaries according to the framework and competence. They also wish for a total exemption from tax and social security contributions for the 2020/2021 fiscal years, the postponement of bank maturities for 2020 and 2021 without interest, as well as the granting of interest-free loans to companies in the sector who will use them in 2021.
The study points out that these supports, within the limits of their structural effects, represent the only channel that would allow this sector to maintain itself until the return to normal. "In this regard, professionals believe that the organization of face-to-face events is the only way that would favor the return of their activities to normal, while strictly and rigorously respecting the health protocol proposed by the GPPEM since July 2020," adds the same study.
