Moroccan Engineering Student Crowned ’Miss Cherries’ at 99th Sefrou Fruit Festival

Meryem Bettacha, a 23-year-old mechanical engineering student, was elected Miss "Cherries" at the 99th edition of the Fruit Festival in the city of Sefrou.
Originally from Sidi Kacem, the winner managed to convince the jury thanks to a project on the fight against pollution in a valley in Sefrou. She has committed to investing in the water and tourist resources of the valley and launching associative initiatives to preserve the cleanliness of the site.
Her runners-up, Zahra Boumalek, director of a website and originally from the city of Nador, and Fatima Sbai, from Guercif and a graduate in English, were crowned during the ceremony. The first runner-up presented an original project in Morocco of a fast-food company, while the second submitted the theme of preparing young people for the marriage project, to fight against divorces.
The oldest festival in Morocco, the event is classified as "Intangible Heritage of Humanity" and plans several artistic evenings, sports activities and thematic interventions led by experts in various specialties.
