Moroccan Drug Gang Linked to Fatal Shooting in Spain’s Galicia Region

The Mocro Maffia would be behind the assassination of a man in Galicia, a city located in northwestern Spain. The victim, shot in broad daylight, would have been mistaken for his brother who was the target of the Moroccan mafia. The police lean towards a settling of scores related to drug trafficking.
The Moroccan gang would be behind several shootings and murders in Spain, the latest of which took place this week in Galicia, reports El Debate. An investigation has been opened and has made it possible to locate and identify four people linked to the Mocro Maffia. According to the initial results of the investigation, the persons concerned, who arrived in Galicia two days before the assassination, would have gone to Arteixo to commit their crime.
The Mocro Maffia, the Moroccan mafia active in the Netherlands and Belgium, has been trying to establish itself in Spain for a few years. Despite the vigilance of the Spanish security forces, the criminal network specialized in drug trafficking and organized crime has managed to extend its area of influence in the Iberian peninsula. Last April, Karim Bouyakhrichan, one of the barons of the Mocro Maffia, was arrested after six years of investigation. He is accused of various murders in Spain and of having threatened to kill Princess Amalia of the Netherlands. Released by the justice system, he is said to have subsequently escaped to Morocco.
According to data from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, the Mocro Maffia would be present in Morocco, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and Spain. In June 2022, the Civil Guard, in collaboration with Europol, dismantled a network linked to the Mocro Maffia, seizing 3.5 tons of cocaine worth around 150 million euros and arresting 17 people in Algeciras and Malaga in particular.
Last year, the Spanish National Police also intercepted a shipment of 2 tons of cocaine from Colombia belonging to the Moroccan mafia in the port of Barcelona. 10 members of the network were arrested on this occasion. The assassination that occurred this week in Galicia and attributed to the Mocro Maffia is proof that the criminal network is gradually extending its tentacles in Spain. Galicia is now the subject of particular attention from the Spanish security forces.
