Moroccan Dirham Weakens Against Euro and Dollar, Central Bank Reports

The Moroccan dirham depreciated by 0.4% against the euro and 1.1% against the US dollar during the period from August 29 to September 4, 2024, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).
During this period, no auction operation was carried out on the foreign exchange market, the central bank said in its weekly bulletin. As of August 30, official reserve assets stood at 363.2 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 0.4% from the previous week and 1.3% year-on-year, the same source said.
BAM’s interventions averaged 148.7 MMDH per day. They are divided between 7-day advances for an amount of 65 MMDH, as well as longer-term repurchase agreements and guaranteed loans for respective amounts of 48.4 MMDH and 35.2 MMDH.
On the interbank market, the average daily trading volume was 2 MMDH and the interbank rate averaged 2.75%.
During the week of August 29 to September 4, 2024, the MASI depreciated by 0.4%, bringing its performance since the beginning of the year to 14.5%.
As for the weekly trading volume, it reached 2 MMDH instead of 721.4 million dirhams the previous week, mainly carried out on the central equity market.
