Moroccan Dirham Holds Steady Against Euro, Gains on Dollar in Late December

The dirham appreciated by 0.8% against the dollar and remained virtually stable against the euro during the period from December 24 to 30, 2020, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM)’s weekly indicators.
During this period, no auction operation was carried out on the foreign exchange market, BAM said, noting that it injected an amount of 89.5 billion dirhams, including 44 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances on call for tenders. Similarly, 25.2 billion dirhams and 5 billion dirhams were respectively injected under the programs to support the financing of very small, small and medium-sized enterprises (VSMEs) and for foreign exchange swap operations.
As for the average daily trading volume, it stood at 5.1 billion dirhams on the interbank market. Regarding the interbank rate, it averaged 1.5%. The central bank also specifies that it injected a total of 44.7 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances during the call for tenders on December 30 (value date December 31).
As for the Masi, it recorded a decline of 1.6%, thus bringing its underperformance since the beginning of the year to 7.9%.
