Moroccan Diaspora Remittances Surge 6.1% to 47 Billion Dirhams in First Half

In the first half of the year, remittances from Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) reached more than 47.04 billion dirhams compared to 44.33 billion during the same period last year.
These fund transfers thus show an increase of 6.1%, the Office notes in its monthly bulletin of foreign trade indicators for the month of June. Compared to the 2018 average, these transfers have risen by more than 15.18 billion dirhams, the same source reports.
The Office also reports an increase in the trade deficit of 48.7% with a 44.2% increase in imports and a 41.2% increase in exports. For its part, the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 89% to 16.191 billion dirhams at the end of last June.
