Moroccan Diaspora Remittances Dip 9.7%, Still Outpace Pre-2021 Levels

At the end of last January, Moroccans living abroad (MRE) transferred around 6.09 billion dirhams (MMDH) compared to more than 6.74 MMDH in 2021, according to the Office des Changes.
Although these fund transfers have decreased by 9.7%, they remain higher than the revenues recorded between 2018 and 2020, the Office points out, also noting that the balance of trade in services shows a surplus down 37.7%. This is due to a larger drop in exports (-18.3%) than in imports (-3.4%).
As for travel receipts, they reached 1.06 MMDH at the end of January 2022, continuing their decline for the second consecutive year. The Office speaks of a 58.6% regression compared to the end of January 2021 and 84.3% compared to January 2020.
As for expenses, they fell by 12.6%. At the end of January 2022, the travel balance stood at more than 375 million dirhams (MDH) compared to +1.77 MMDH a year earlier and more than 4.91 MMDH at the end of January 2020.
