Moroccan Diaspora Remittances Dip Slightly, France Remains Top Source

Until the end of last May, Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) transferred 25.86 billion dirhams to Morocco, a slight decrease compared to the same period last year.
25.86 billion dirhams. This is the financial amount sent to the country by Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), as of the end of May 2019. According to La Vie Eco, quoted by Le360.ma, France is at the top of the ranking with a rate of 35% of the total amounts sent by the MREs. It is followed by the Gulf countries with 18%. Italy, with 9.4%, and Spain, with 8.6%, are in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
The same source notes that the increase observed in transfers from the Gulf countries is mainly due to a new resource that is gradually gaining importance. At this rate, the national economy can only be better off, given the influence of MRE transfers on the economy.
The funds transferred last year by the MREs amounted to 64.8 billion dirhams, down 1.7% compared to 2017 (65.37 billion dirhams).
