Moroccan Diaspora’s Record Remittances Bolster Economy Amid Pandemic, Party Leader Says

The Istiqlal party has praised the resilience of the Moroccan economy during the Covid-19 crisis, emphasizing the contribution of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) through their remittances, which reached a record level during the period.
The balance party organized its 11th ordinary session of the central committee last weekend, under the theme "the Moroccan diaspora and its role in the implementation of the new development model".
According to the Secretary General, Nizar Baraka, the Moroccan diaspora has shown a patriotic solidarity during the difficult periods of the national economy and contributed significantly to its relaunch. The official also emphasized the party’s proposals presented to the Special Commission on the Development Model concerning the MREs.
In this regard, he stressed the need to strengthen the Moroccan cultural identity within this community, in accordance with the provisions of the 2011 Constitution, and to ensure a more inclusive representation of the MREs.
In addition, several current national issues related to the economic and social situation, the means to protect the purchasing power of citizens, and the measures taken by the government were discussed during this session.
