Moroccan Customs Updates Guide for Damaged Vehicles Owned by Expats

The Moroccan customs has updated its guide for Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) in which it specifies the procedures for clearing severely damaged vehicles that must be cleared for scrap.
According to the guide, any vehicle admitted temporarily and having suffered serious damage, duly justified (for example, accident, burned, very damaged or completely destroyed) during the validity period of the temporary admission can be cleared for scrap. This applies if the damage prevents the re-export of the vehicle.
To avoid complications, the vehicle owner must spontaneously present himself to the customs services to regularize the customs situation of the vehicle. Otherwise, fines remain payable.
Requests for clearance of motor vehicles for scrap must be filed with the customs office closest to the location of the vehicle in question. These requests must be accompanied by the following documents:
• A copy of the temporary admission card.
• The original or duplicate of the vehicle registration document.
• Four photographs of the vehicle taken from different angles.
• The original of the "Rejection Sheet", issued by the Ministry of Transport for cases of vehicles refused technical inspection.
• The official report drawn up by the competent authorities, if any, or the amicable report for accident vehicles.
• An expert report drawn up by an approved expert.
