Moroccan Crown Prince Sparks Intrigue with Jet Ski Convoy Near Disputed Ceuta Waters

Prince Moulay Hassan was spotted this week, navigating the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar, near Sebta, escorted by several jet skis.

The passage of the Moroccan crown prince near the coast of Ceuta has attracted the attention of summer vacationers on the beach of El Chorrillo, who took photos with their mobile phones. According to El Faro de Ceuta, the Spanish security forces, particularly the Guardia Civil, were informed of Moulay Hassan’s crossing in this area of the strait.

This stroll of the Moroccan prince recalls the incidents that occurred in this area in August 2014, when the maritime service of the Civil Guard had wanted to identify the boat transporting King Mohammed VI, which was navigating two miles from Punta Almina. The authorities of Sebta would not have been informed of the presence of the Moroccan monarch in the waters of the strait, which had caused tensions between his escort and the Guardia Civil.

In August 2020, King Mohammed VI had again been spotted in the area. A short video that went viral shows a boat on board which the Sovereign would be, escorted by several jet skis, approaching the bay of Ceuta, to the applause of the curious.

Moulay Hassan is known for his discretion and simplicity. The crown prince is studying economic and social sciences at the Mohamed VI Polytechnic University. Between classes and his institutional duties, the 22-year-old prince spends his free time playing football or basketball. He also practices horseback riding and is passionate about aviation.
