Moroccan Critics Win Big at Prestigious Katara Arab Novel Prize in Paris

The Katara Cultural Village Foundation announced during an evening event held in Paris the names of the winners of the 8th edition of the Katara Prize for the Arab Novel. Four Moroccans are among the nominees.
It was on the sidelines of the launch of the International Week of the Novel that the Katara Cultural Village Foundation organized in Paris, at the UNESCO headquarters, the ceremony during which the names of the winners of the Katara Prize for the Arab Novel were revealed. Thus, in the category of Studies on Literary Research and Criticism, the Moroccan critics Said Fellak, Abdelmajid Noussi and Saïd Yaktine were awarded for their respective studies entitled "Narratives, from Structural Theory to a Cultural Approach", "Composed Text: Study on the Patterns of the Contemporary Arab Novel" and "Applied Narratives: Readings in the Narrative of the Arab Novel". They each win the sum of $30,000, and the Katara Prize Committee also offers the printing, publication and marketing of their works.
Moroccan Abdellatif Nila also won the prize for his novel "The Wonderful Journey to Al Hamra" and wins the sum of $15,000. There are no Moroccans among the winners in the category of unpublished Arab novels. It is the Syrians Noureddine Al Hachimi and Malk Al Yamamah Al Qari and the Sudanese Abdelkader Madoui who distinguished themselves. The works of the laureates will be published and translated into English and French.
