Moroccan Court Upholds 20-Year Sentence for Protest Leader Nasser Zefzafi

The verdict fell like a guillotine for Nasser Zefzafi and his co-detainees, as the 20-year prison sentence was upheld on appeal this Friday, April 6.
The Casablanca Court of Appeal upheld the 20-year prison sentence handed down on June 28, 2018 by the criminal chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal against Zefzafi and three other leaders, prosecuted for "conspiracy to undermine the security of the State".
Arrested on May 26, 2017, Nasser Zefzafi and 3 other leaders of the Al Hoceima demonstrations, Nabil Ahmjiq, Ouassim Boustati and Samir Ighid, were sentenced by the criminal chamber to 20 years in prison.
The court also confirmed the sentences of 15, 10 and 7 years in prison for the detainees Mohamed Haki, Zakaria Adehchour and Mahmoud Bouhnoud, also prosecuted for "conspiracy to undermine the security of the State".
In total, the trial of the instigators of the Al Hoceima riots lasted nine months.
