Moroccan Court Upholds Sentences for Rif Protesters, Sparking New Demonstrations

The decision of the Casablanca Court of Appeal to maintain the prison sentences against the Hirak activists has prompted many residents of the city of Nador to take to the streets to demonstrate.
Several dozen people, mainly young people, gathered yesterday via social networks in Laroui to demonstrate against the sentences handed down on appeal by the Casablanca Court of Appeal.
According to several local media, including Dalil Rif and Nadorcity, the security forces prevented the demonstrations from parading in the center of the municipality and another demonstration this time planned in Nador was not authorized by the local authorities.
To recall, Nasser Zefzafi and 3 other leaders of the demonstrations in Al Hoceima, Nabil Ahmjiq, Ouassim Boustati and Samir Ighid, were sentenced by the criminal chamber to 20 years in prison, confirming the sentences handed down at first instance.
