Moroccan Court Sentences Notorious Cocaine Kingpin ’Batata’ in Major Drug Bust

The Moroccan police have dealt a blow to the drug trafficking in Tangier. The court of first instance of the city has sentenced the famous cocaine baron, "Batata", to eight years in prison and his associate, "Chiker", to five years.
This verdict, delivered after a series of hearings, marks the epilogue of a vast operation to dismantle a criminal network that was becoming increasingly influential throughout the region.
The investigations, carried out by the judicial police of Tangier, made it possible to uncover the modus operandi of this criminal organization. "Batata", originally from the working-class neighborhood of Casabarata, had quickly established himself as an indispensable figure in the cocaine trade. His meteoric rise, from a simple seller to a wholesaler, made him a priority target for the law enforcement, reports Achkayn.
Arrested in Tetouan a few days before his accomplice, "Batata" was apprehended as he was trying to relax on the beach of Sania. His associate, "Y. Ch.", was intercepted on board a Dacia Logan, a vehicle he used to distribute the drugs in a neighborhood of the city.
