Moroccan Court Delays Trial of Influencer and Actor Charged with Defamation

The court of first instance in Marrakech decided on Wednesday to postpone to April 21 the trial of Algerian Brahim Bouhlel and Franco-Moroccan Zbarbooking. The request for conditional release of the two defendants filed by their lawyers was also rejected.
The Moroccan is an influencer and the Algerian, a film actor. They are both being prosecuted for "defamation and publication of photos of minors without the consent of the parents." Brahim Bouhlel and Zbarbooking were arrested on Monday, April 5, following the publication of an insulting video towards Moroccan women and children posted on social media.
They are being prosecuted for offenses which, according to the Moroccan Penal Code, are punishable by sentences of up to five years in prison. On Wednesday, during the first hearing, the judge of the court of first instance in Marrakech, without giving the reasons, decided to postpone the trial to April 21.
