Moroccan Court Acquits Man in Landmark Adultery Case

While his wife accused him of adultery, a man gets off the hook in a surprising way. The court of first instance in Kénitra delivers a landmark judgment.
It all started with a complaint filed with the police by a woman against her husband in 2024. The wife claims to have caught her husband in "intimate" relations with another woman. She provides the police with a video clearly showing her husband and the accused sharing the same bed and kissing passionately, reports Hespress. During his interrogation, the man admitted to having already had sexual relations with the accused, but he insisted that no intercourse took place on the fateful night.
At the trial, the accused surprisingly gets off the hook. The court of first instance in Kénitra decides to acquit the couple. It relies on several elements. First, the police report loses all value because it was not signed. Second element: the two accused denied any sexual contact before the prosecutor. He takes their word into account rather than the images. The justice also reveals that no official document confirming the marital betrayal was presented.
The Court also did not take the incriminating video into account on the grounds that it was not accompanied by a report drawn up by a judicial police inspector. In the eyes of the Court, sleeping in the same bed and kissing could in no way be equated with a sexual relationship in the legal sense of the term. The two lovebirds also claimed to be engaged.
