Moroccan Court Upholds Prison Sentences for Canadian Woman Who Slapped Official

The Rabat Court of Appeal has upheld the sentences handed down in the first instance against the MRE (Canada) who slapped a caid in Temara, as well as her husband and his friend.
At the end of the hearing held from Monday night to Tuesday, the court confirmed the two-year prison sentence for the main defendant, as well as the one-year prison sentence for her husband, reports Al Akhbar. Sentenced to six months in prison by the court of first instance in Temara, the husband’s friend received an additional two months on appeal, bringing his sentence to eight months in prison, adds the daily.
During this hearing, the public prosecutor’s representative emphasized the seriousness of the charges against the defendants, in light of the video depicting the events that was widely shared on social media, asking the court to impose substantial sentences on the accused. For her part, the main defendant pleaded for the court’s clemency, expressing her regrets and confessing to having slapped the caid in a fit of anger.
A mea culpa that apparently did not convince the court, which upheld the sentences handed down in the first instance for the MRE and her husband.
