Moroccan Convert Ordained as Catholic Deacon in French Basilica

He is 36 years old and is from the Rif region of Morocco. Mehdi Riffi was ordained a deacon, assisting the priest in his duties, on Sunday, October 6, at the Basilica of Notre-Dame d’Alençon, in northwestern France.
The young man was ordained a Catholic priest by the bishop of the church, Mgr Jacques Habert, during a ceremony celebrated in the basilica in the presence of several religious personalities from the region.
The deacon is the name given to the servant of the church, who assists the priest in the performance of religious duties and prayers. He is chosen for his faith and moral qualities.
Speaking of his journey to the Catholic faith, Mehdi Riffi said a few days ago that he had had a good adolescent crisis during which he "clearly understood that several paths of life existed".
