Moroccan Coastal Fishing Revenue Surges 34% to 5.99 Billion Dirhams

In terms of value, coastal and artisanal fishery products sold in Morocco have seen a 34% increase at the end of the first eight months of 2021. These sales reached a total of 5.99 billion dirhams.
These figures were published by the National Fisheries Office (ONP), through its recent note on statistics on coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco for the month of August. The weight of these landings reached 708,384 tons, a decrease of 5% compared to the same period in 2020. As for the species, the value of cephalopods increased by 72%, that of crustaceans by 58%, and 12%, 3% and 2% for white and pelagic fish and shellfish, while the value of seaweed fell by 25%.
Regarding the ports, a total of 693,862 tons of coastal and artisanal fishery products arrived via the Atlantic port entries, a 5% reduction compared to 2020, but with a 34% growth in value to over 5.47 billion dirhams. The Mediterranean ports fell by 1% to 14,522 tons. However, their value increased by 35% to 515.3 million dirhams (MDH).
