Moroccan Club RS Berkane Clinches Second CAF Cup Title in Penalty Shootout Drama

The Renaissance sportive de Berkane won the CAF Cup for the second time in its history, after its victory in the final (1-1, p.s. 5-4), Friday against the South Africans of Orlando Pirates in Uyo, Nigeria.
The Oranges managed to snatch the trophy after a hard-fought match that ended in a penalty shootout. The two teams went into extra time after a goalless draw at the end of the ninety minutes.
Florent Ibengué’s team took the lead through Youssef Alfahli, from the penalty spot, in the 97th minute. The South African equalizer came three minutes from the end (117’) of the match. This was followed by the fateful penalty shootout, which ultimately smiled on the Moroccans.
RS Berkane was thus playing the 3rd final of its history of the CAF Cup. The first in 2019 was lost against Zamalek and the 2nd won in 2020 against another Egyptian team, Pyramids FC.
