Moroccan Club Atlético Tétouan Revives Historic Logo for 100th Anniversary

The Moghreb Atletico de Tétouan (MAT) is preparing for its centenary of existence. In this context, the Moroccan club changed its logo this week to the old one it used during the Spanish protectorate.
Atlético Tétouan has modified its official logo in preparation for the celebration of its centenary of creation. On its Facebook page, the club has replaced this logo with the old red and white one it used when it played in the Spanish championship (Liga), reports Al Oâmk. This logo resembles that of Atlético de Madrid, considered the ancestor of Atlético Tétouan, with its red and white colors stamped with the national star, the icon of a mosque and a palm tree.
The centenary coincides with the club’s arrival in the second division of the Moroccan championship after 16 years in the third division. The club has already won two professional championship titles, and has also participated in the Club World Cup and the African Champions League.
Considered one of the oldest Moroccan clubs, Atlético Tétouan was founded in 1922. Champion of the second division of the Spanish Liga, it had also played in the first division with giants like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in Tétouan and Spain.
The Saniat Rmal stadium in Tétouan, renamed the Mohamed Abarhoun stadium, is one of the oldest stadiums in Morocco. With a capacity of 15,000 seats, it was built in 1913 by the Spanish architect, Marquez de Varela.
