Moroccan Clinics Seek to Hire 100 Filipino Nurses, Citing Skills

Two clinics located in Marrakech are looking to recruit 100 Filipino nurses. In this regard, correspondence has been addressed to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
Dominador Salanga, attached to the Labor Section at the Philippine Embassy in Rabat, said that the POEA branch recently installed in Rabat has sent two correspondences to the POEA headquarters regarding the recruitment of 100 Filipino nurses for the benefit of two Moroccan clinics. In total, 4,600 Filipinos work in Morocco, the majority being employed in beauty centers or as domestic workers. The interest of Moroccan healthcare establishments in nurses is motivated by their skills. "Our nurses have the skills, especially those with previous experience in the Middle East. Our nationals are also known to be caring, attentive and professional nurses," Dominador Salanga told the Philippine news agency PNA.
The POEA Rabat has established a qualification standard for nurses who would be authorized to work in Morocco. These nurses must have a B-level mastery of French and Arabic and have two to three years of professional experience. "The doctor may speak English but the nurse would take care of a patient, so if you have a patient who only speaks French or Arabic and you have a Filipino nurse who is a qualified nurse but unable to speak or understand the language, you are handling lives so that can be the cause of injury," he explained.
