Moroccan Classic ’Ali Zaoua’ Returns to Theaters, Proceeds to Benefit Child Actors and Charity

Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch is back in theaters with a more current version of his film Ali Zaoua, released 20 years ago. The proceeds from these screenings, which start on October 26, will be used for social causes.
The remastered version of Ali Zaoua will also be available on the platform of the Moroccan and independent cinema Aflamin, initiated by Nabil Ayouch. For the Moroccan director, the aim is to rediscover this film in a current version with a 4K resolution and HDR sound, but also to help children in difficult situations. Indeed, all the box office proceeds will be donated to the four main actors of the film as well as to the Bayti association, which works for the social reintegration of children in difficult situations.
With 44 national and international awards, the film Ali Zaoua is one of the first productions of the Franco-Moroccan director. Even though he is returning to the cinema with a restored version, the editing and the story will not change. Its screening in theaters will allow the younger generation to discover this great classic and gives the director the opportunity to draw the attention of society to the eternal issue of street children.
"I make films because I have the weakness to believe that a film can change things, or at least modify reality to a certain extent. 20 years ago, when I decided to make a film about and with street children as the main heroes, it was to denounce a situation that seemed unacceptable to me in our society. 20 years later, the observation is almost the same. It still outrages me. Rereleasing Ali Zaoua two decades later is not only a cultural event, but also an activist action aimed at raising awareness and reminding of the enormous work done every day in the field by the associative fabric, which needs to be supported by everyone," explains the director in a press release.
