Moroccan City Protests Border Closure with Spain for Second Week

After the demonstrations on Friday, February 5, the inhabitants of Fnideq demonstrated again on Friday, February 12, to protest against the closure of the borders with Ceuta and the deterioration of their living conditions.
The inhabitants of the city of Fnideq repeated the feat on Friday, February 12, storming the street to demonstrate against the closure of the borders and the deterioration of the economic and social fabric. The demonstration took place without violence and without incident, unlike that of Friday, February 5, where clashes were noted between demonstrators and law enforcement.
The Wali of the region would have already contacted several political and associative actors in the city in order to find viable solutions to appease the tension. In the same vein, the "Reflection Group for Fnideq" has just launched a petition to demand that the Council of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region find lasting solutions to the severe economic crisis that Fnideq is going through.
After the demonstration on February 5, the authorities reported the upcoming implementation of a "support and entrepreneurship support program aimed at boosting employability and promoting entrepreneurship for people in precarious situations, particularly women and young people". It includes the creation of economic activity areas in Fnideq and at the Tétouan Park level.
