A Moroccan city among the best free tourist destinations in Africa

Morocco dominates the ranking of the 10 best free tourist destinations in Africa, compiled by a specialized website. One of its cities ranks in the top 3.
The travel specialist website Casago designates Chefchaouen as the second best free tourist destination in Africa (with 76.40% five-star ratings) based on the opinion of TripAdvisor users who gave five stars. It is preceded by Lion’s Head in Cape Town, South Africa. The blue pearl of Morocco owes this position to its beauty, "its streets lined with pretty blue houses, a view considered a "photographer’s dream" by a critic. Perched in the northeastern mountains of the kingdom, this small town offers a most magical Mediterranean setting. It also attracts tourists for its rich cultural heritage.
In addition to Chefchaouen, two other Moroccan cities are in the top 10 of the best free tourist destinations in Africa. With a rating of 67.74%, the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou in Ouarzazate occupies the sixth place in the ranking. The medina of Fez takes the ninth place with a rating of 62.09%.
Recently, Architectural Digest placed Chefchaouen in third place in the top 7 of the most monochrome cities in the world. "In this city in northern Morocco, blue covers everything: the houses, the ground, the roofs, the walls, the alleys, the stairs... Why? For some, the color repels mosquitoes. For others, it symbolizes the skies and the Mediterranean Sea. Finally, some argue that it would be linked to the Jews who took refuge to escape persecution in the 15th century. Blue being an important color in this religion, the inhabitants would have covered the city with this hue. No explanation reaches a consensus," commented the specialized magazine.
