Moroccan Citrus Exports to UK Surge 20%, Reaching 650,000 Tonnes

Moroccan citrus exports to the United Kingdom have jumped 15 to 20% and could reach 600,000 to 650,000 tonnes next season, according to the Moroccan Interprofessional Federation of Citrus Fruits.
Morocco had signed a trade agreement with the United Kingdom when it was still a member of the European Union. This alliance offers new opportunities for the two countries, says El Mehdi El Alami, director of promotion and development at Morocco FoodEx.
According to him, Morocco has revised its commercial strategy to take into account the needs of the British markets in the export of its products. The communication campaign for this operation "focuses on the long-standing relationship with the United Kingdom and aims to highlight these new opportunities," adds the director.
"In Morocco, citrus plantations occupy about 135,000 hectares," he specifies, ensuring that Morocco is a major exporter of citrus fruits to countries such as Russia, Canada, the United States and some Asian countries.
