Moroccan Cities See Sharp Rise in Food Prices, Consumer Costs Climb 1.4% in August

Prices have risen in most Moroccan cities during the month of August, according to the HCP information note, which also shows declines for some products.
Compared to July, the consumer price index for August increased by 1.4%. This change is the result of a 3.4% increase in the food product index and a 0.1% increase in the non-food product index, according to the HCP information note.
The increases in food products between July and August are based on fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, meat and coffee, tea and cocoa. On the other hand, prices have fallen for mineral waters, refreshing drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, as well as milk, cheese and eggs. As for non-food products, the increase mainly concerns fuel prices.
The largest increases in the consumer price index were recorded in Beni-Mellal, Tetouan, Laâyoune, Errachidia, Kénitra, Al-Hoceima, Agadir, Marrakech, Oujda, Settat, Meknès, Fès, Tangier and Safi.
The consumer price index has seen a marked increase compared to the same period last year.
