At the end of 2022, inflation reached 6.6% and the annual consumer price index (CPI) recorded an increase of 6.6% compared to 2021, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP), which specifies that some cities have seen prices rise close to 10%.
This recorded trend results from the 11.0% increase in the food products index and the 3.9% increase in the non-food products index, the HCP indicates in a note on the CPI at the end of 2022.
The non-food products index has seen variations ranging from a 0.1% increase for "Health" to a 12.2% increase for "Transport", with a 5.8% increase in the underlying inflation indicator compared to 2021.
For the month of December 2022 alone, the CPI increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month. This variation is the result of a 0.7% increase in the food products index and a 0.4% decrease in the non-food products index.
As for the cities, prices increased in Al Hoceima (8.4%), Kenitra and Beni-Mellal (8.0%), Errachidia (7.6%), Marrakech (7.3%), Safi (7%), Fez and Oujda (6.9%), Tetouan and Meknes (6.8%).
