Moroccan Chef Feeds London’s Homeless During Pandemic Crisis

While the coronavirus pandemic has created an anxious and uncertain atmosphere around the world, it has at least brought about an unprecedented chain of solidarity.
A Moroccan chef named Khalid Dehbi, living between London, Morocco and Switzerland, has decided to put his expertise at the service of the most destitute and medical personnel during this pandemic.
Bringing his personal touch in these difficult times is a priority for each of us, he told the newspaper Ashark Al Awsat. Far from wanting to stand out from the crowd, the MRE is rather seeking to serve the most needy with all humility.
"I had to close my ’Beso’ restaurant in Covent Garden, and left my position at ’Quintessentially’, following the health emergency. Saddened by the plight of the homeless, the elderly and medical personnel, I had the idea of bringing my personal touch, by reopening the restaurant I manage and preparing full meals with the help of part of the work team," said Khalid Dehbi.
The chef had to rent 5 minibuses to ensure the distribution of meals to all the homeless people in the city, before contacting the London hospitals and rescue units, totaling about 150 covers per day.
Born into a family of diplomats, Khalid Dehbi is a lover of the culinary arts and Arab and North African cultures, who has lived between London, Italy, Morocco and Switzerland. Evolving under the tutelage of masters of gastronomy, the chef owns a restaurant at the Verbier ski resort in Switzerland.
