Moroccan Caterers Demand Government Aid Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Caterers no longer know which door to knock on. Given the many measures taken by the government to help certain sectors impacted by the health crisis, these professionals, without resources, feel forgotten and cry out for injustice.

With the critical situation the world is going through due to the health crisis, the case of caterers in Morocco is one of the most dramatic. No measure has been taken to alleviate their suffering, denounces this category of professionals who demand a schedule for the resumption of their activities, reports Les Inspirations Éco, indicating that "they feel sacrificed on the altar of Covid in favor of other professionals". In this sense, the Executive Office of the Moroccan Federation of Caterers recently held a meeting to decide on the establishment of a health protocol that will facilitate the resumption of activity, in order to alleviate the suffering of the sector and give hope to the professionals without income.

Moreover, this category of professionals is unable to access bank loans due to the tightening of lending conditions, as banking structures no longer really trust the most affected sectors. Thus, these professionals are asking for an emergency measure from the Executive. Among the grievances, they are asking for leniency from the Directorate General of Taxes, in order to benefit from the exemption from professional tax and municipal services.

In addition, the Federation is requesting employment assistance and hopes to benefit from the measures taken by the Economic Monitoring Committee for the months of January, February, March and April 2021, in order to give them new life. Even if "none of the proposals made by the professionals have been validated", they remain hopeful and say they are ready "to comply with the necessary rules in the direction of finding effective solutions to mitigate the effects of the pandemic and resume professional activity as soon as possible".
