Moroccan cartel new generation emerges France CMNG DZ Mafia

Five people were targeted during the night of July 16-17 in the Fleming district of Carcassonne. A young man in his twenties was killed and four other people were wounded by gunfire.

A video attributed to the perpetrators shows a masked shooter opening fire before returning to a vehicle. It bears the acronyms "DZNG-CMNG" as well as the flags of Morocco, Algeria and Mexico, reports Le Figaro.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez mentioned the claim of this attack by the "DZ Mafia New Generation" and by a "new Moroccan collective New Generation".

A new criminal label

Investigators are still trying to determine whether CMNG constitutes a structured organization or simply a name used by a local group linked to DZ Mafia.

This new generation adopts the communication methods of Latin American cartels: propaganda videos, displayed weapons and identity references. The term "New Generation" is notably inspired by names used by certain Mexican criminal organizations.

The judicial police remain cautious about these acronyms, which may designate autonomous groups seeking to capitalize on DZ Mafia’s reputation. An investigation into voluntary homicide and attempted homicide has been opened.
