Moroccan Cancer Patient Faces Deportation as Spain Rejects Asylum Plea

The authorities in Seville have just rejected the asylum application of a Moroccan man suffering from cancer. The young man, who is undergoing treatment in the city with the support of a local NGO, is making a cry for help to the authorities.

Arrived in Ceuta by swimming in May 2021, the young man spent a brief stay at the Temporary Immigrant Center and the Tarajal Red Cross Center, before joining Seville in October of the same year as an asylum seeker. The authorities in the city have just rejected his asylum application, putting the Moroccan in an irregular situation. The Accem organization in Seville, which is accompanying him in his cancer treatment at the oncology department of the Virgen del Rocío hospital, is looking for a suitable reception center for his social and health care, reports El Diario.

"I need help, please," confides the 30-year-old man who is currently living in an apartment with four other migrants. Last June, he was informed that he no longer met the conditions to continue to benefit from the program executed by Accem, in partnership with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. "His problem is housing but the advanced stage of his illness makes the search difficult, as it is a ’very vulnerable profile’," explain the NGO officials who continue to take care of the Moroccan’s basic needs.

Since 2021, the young man has undergone three cycles of chemotherapy and two bone marrow transplants, which has not allowed him to benefit from certain training programs. Today, he finds himself in a "complicated situation", looking for a reception center. Accem "knocks on all possible doors" and tries to find a solution to his now irregular administrative situation. The NGO recently asked the Ministries of the Interior and Inclusion to take into account humanitarian reasons to grant him basic documents. It hopes for a favorable response in the coming days to relieve the Moroccan.
