Moroccan Buyers Lead Foreign Home Purchases in Spain’s Aragon Region

In 2020, Moroccans bought more homes in Aragon, in northern Spain, according to statistics from the real estate registry of the civil registry.
Moroccans bought 12.73% of homes last year, behind Romanians who bought 35.71% and far ahead of the Chinese who acquired 4.50%. In total, 94.32% of homes were bought by national citizens.
By province, Zaragoza was the one that recorded the highest purchase rate at 6.20%, ahead of Huesca (5.42%) and Teruel (1.82%). Moroccans were the foreigners who bought the most in several provinces of Andalusia and Extremadura, as well as in northern Spain.
During the same period, foreigners carried out 47,500 home sales, or 11.3% of the total, in the communities with high tourist activity such as the Balearic Islands (29.6%), the Valencian Community (23.3%), the Canary Islands (22.8%) and Murcia (18.5%). Overall, the number of home sales recorded in 2020 fell by 16.7% compared to 2019 to 419,898 transactions, a decline justified by the current economic and health crisis.
