Moroccan Boxer Anas Messaoudi Clinches IBF International Welterweight Title, Remains Undefeated

The only Moroccan boxer among the top 1000 in the world ranking of his category, the Moroccan pugilist Anas Messaoudi won Saturday, March 11 in Brussels, the IBF international welterweight title. He was facing the Mexican champion Miguel Parra.

At 29 years old, the Moroccan boxer now has 15 wins for 15 fights. Still undefeated, Anas Messouadi was facing the 29-year-old Mexican Miguel Parra who has 21 wins including 14 by KO. Even though he got the upper hand over Anas Messouadi during the fight, this did not prevent the latter from winning this new title.

The Moroccan boxer now hopes to access fights of an even higher caliber. "This is a major title, in a major world federation, so it’s a first big step forward in my career. The dream is to conquer the IBF World title one day. I’m going to keep working hard and it will pay off," reports Dernière Heure.

On Saturday, the fight was punctuated by irregularities. Hungarian referee Bence Kovacs had to remind the two protagonists to order. Questioned on the matter, Anas Messouadi defends himself. "Facing an opponent who came to tear my head off and not to just make up the numbers, I had to have a big heart and it is with this quality that I went to get this victory. It may not have been the most beautiful fight to watch, but I’m really proud of myself, my staff and all the work done."

Originally from Tangier, Anas Messouadi lives in Brussels. His goal is "to gain more experience and learn from the best in his category in the world". Six-time Belgian champion and Benelux champion in 2020, he fought for Morocco between 2016 and 2017, during the World Series of Boxing. He turned professional at the end of 2017, and currently has a flawless record of 15 wins, including 9 by KO.
