Moroccan Border Chief Suspended for Assaulting Migrant at Ceuta Crossing

The Director General of National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, has decided to suspend a senior official at the Bab Sebta border post for verbal and physical assaults against an illegal migrant trying to cross the border.
This is a temporary suspension imposed on the head of the urban corps at the Bab Sebta border post, with an obligation to appear before the disciplinary council to answer the professional misconduct charges against him.
According to a statement from the DGSN, an attempt by illegal migrants to infiltrate via the Bab Sebta border post was thwarted by the border police. The senior official verbally and physically assaulted an illegal migrant, exceeding, it is indicated, the limits of his powers.
The DGSN statement recalls that the instructions are firm both with regard to the application of the law in the fight against crime, and with regard to respect for the rights and freedoms of individuals.
