Moroccan El Bakkali Triumphs in Paris Diamond League Steeplechase Despite Injury

A new victory for the World Vice-Champion of the steeplechase in London with a time of 8:06.64, despite his injury, ahead of Kenyan Benjamin Kigen (second) and Ethiopian Lemecha Girma (third). The verdict of the 3000m steeplechase event in Paris was very difficult for the Moroccan athlete, El Bakkali.
With his many experiences, the 3000m specialist gave it his all to win this victory. Even the injury he sustained during the race was not a handicap for this challenge. He did not abandon the race or the gold medal.
This victory has a cost, reports the IAAF website, which points out that the Moroccan athlete was injured in the foot and that traces of blood were visible on his shoe. During the same race, the Kenyan world and Olympic champion, Conseslus Kipruto, also injured, settled for fifth place.
To take the lead in this competition, El Bakkali went beyond his capabilities. The unsuccessful attempts of Ethiopian Lamecha Girma and Kenyan Benjamin Kigen to overtake him did not succeed. The Moroccan managed to maintain his position by accelerating as he approached the finish line.
