Morocco Coach Regragui Sets Sights on 2025 AFCON Victory on Home Soil

Morocco is preparing to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. A tournament that Walid Regragui, the coach of the Atlas Lions, is determined to win to meet the expectations of Moroccan supporters and people.
After contributing to the historic performance of the Atlas Lions at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, Walid Regragui wants to repeat the feat at the 2025 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco.
On Tuesday, in the Spanish show El Chiringuito, the Moroccan coach expressed his desire to win the AFCON at home. "I want to win the Africa Cup, the country deserves it. The passion for sport there is incredible. There isn’t a day when a Moroccan doesn’t ask me to win it," he confided.
Regragui also spoke about whether he would remain at the helm of the national team. "I have a contract until the 2026 World Cup (in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, editor’s note), but in this job, if you don’t win, decisions come quickly," he indicated.
As a reminder, the Moroccan coach had faced harsh criticism after the early elimination of the Atlas Lions in the round of 16 of the 2023 AFCON Côte d’Ivoire against South Africa (2-0).
