Moroccan Authorities Seize 22 Tons of Potentially Harmful Spanish Juice at Port

Large quantities of juice, from Spain, were seized by Moroccan customs services, at the end of last week. 22 tons of juice were intercepted at the port, after being deemed carcinogenic by the health services of the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA).
A large part of the batch was rejected by the health services of the ONSSA, for non-compliance with the standards of Decree 2.12.389, stipulating that the labeling must imperatively include the list of ingredients. Strict instructions have been issued to analyze products intended for children, in particular juices, which are imported in the form of soluble powders.
The daily Al Massae reports that the analysis results were conclusive. The seized juices contain three food colourings, considered carcinogenic, and which are not mentioned distinctly in the list of ingredients.
The customs services also raided several warehouses in Casablanca, Tangier and Agadir, suspected of storing smuggled or expired products. These operations made it possible to seize a large quantity of goods stored in stores in Hay Moulay Rachid, in Casablanca.
