Moroccan Artists Turn to Social Media for Fame and Fortune, Sparking Debate

More and more Moroccan artists are turning to social networks, especially Instagram and TikTok, to interact with their audience and generate income. However, this trend is drawing criticism, with some pointing to the use of superficial means to gain notoriety.
According to art critic Mohcen Benouich, interviewed by Aljarida24, this enthusiasm for social networks is explained by several factors. On the one hand, the isolation felt by some artists, marginalized by directors, pushes them to seek new ways to become known and reach a wider audience. On the other hand, the possibility of generating significant income through advertising and sponsored partnerships attracts many of them, tempted by the lure of gain.
Benouich indicates that this quest for popularity, often based on light and entertaining content, can harm the image of artists with the public. He also deplores the sometimes inappropriate use of these platforms, warning that it can tarnish the reputation of artists and move them away from their primary vocation: creating art.
The critic calls on artists to favor more professional means to promote their work and not to succumb to the ease of social networks. He emphasizes the importance of preserving artistic integrity and not sacrificing quality for the sake of ephemeral popularity.
