Moroccan Artists Auction Works to Support COVID-19 Relief Fund in Tangier

An art auction was held on Saturday in Tangier. The funds raised will be fully paid into the Special Fund for the management of the new coronavirus pandemic.
About fifty artists participated in this initiative by offering their finest works in order to contribute to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The auction was organized by the Mazad and Art auction house, and once again demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, mutual aid and sharing that characterizes the Moroccan people and which has been revealed to the world during this global health crisis.
The cream of the art world responded present "to acquire unique works of art produced by exceptional Moroccan and international artists," including Safaâ Erruas, Mahi Binebine, Mohamed Melehi, Gustave de Stael, Rachid Ouettassi, Christine Alaoui, Douieb Youssef, Bouzaid Bouabid, Abderrahim Yamou, Chokri Regragui, Steve Fhima, Abdelkrim Ouazzani and Hiba Khamlichi, reports the MAP.
The person in charge of this auction, Chokri Bentaouit, thanked all these great Moroccan and foreign visual artists and sculptors for their generosity in supporting the national effort to curb the epidemic. "We have been working for three months to put together this catalog, made up of 56 works of art, including paintings, photographs and a set of books." He explained that "some people participated in this operation through donations, while galleries in Casablanca, Fez, Rabat and Marrakech donated paintings by their artists".
Hiba Khamlichi is the youngest artist to have participated in this charitable endeavor. She expressed her pride in having been part of such an adventure. "I am happy to be able to participate in the promotion of the values of art, and contribute to this exceptional wave of solidarity in favor of the Special Fund for the management of the Covid-19 pandemic," she said.
The collection of works auctioned "also included photographs, a set of 5 books on Morocco and two lithographs". This auction raised over one million dirhams, the same source specifies.
