Moroccan and Algerian Inmates Clash in Overcrowded Spanish Prison

Violent clashes broke out on Sunday between Moroccan and Algerian prisoners at the El Acebuche prison in Almeria. The prison authorities are asking to use the Taser gun to preserve their integrity.
"All kinds of insults were uttered. The attacks started when one of them took a chair and crushed it on another who was on the ground," explained the prison officers’ union. Five of the inmates who started the fight were placed in solitary confinement. One of the prison employees was urgently transferred to the prison infirmary due to various bruises and abrasions suffered, reports La Voz de Cádiz.
According to the union, prison overcrowding (a high number of Moroccan and Algerian inmates) and the Ramadan period make the cells "powder kegs", as the fasting inmates are "anxious" and "stressed". But the prison officers reacted professionally, the union assures, stressing the need to use the Taser electric gun in emergency and high-risk situations to "safeguard the integrity of officials and inmates".
