Moroccan-American Rapper French Montana Joins Thousands Celebrating Historic World Cup Win in Times Square

Moroccan rapper French Montana celebrated in his own way the victory of the Atlas Lions over Portugal in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Morocco became the first African and Arab country to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup.
Like Moroccan supporters living in France, those based in the United States also celebrated Morocco’s monumental feat in eliminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal (1-0) in Times Square. Among them, Moroccan rapper French Montana who wore the national team jersey. He stood atop a scaffold, waved the Moroccan flag and sang with a crowd of thousands of joyful people, reports TMZ. They all savored Morocco’s historic qualification for the World Cup semi-finals. The performer of Welcome to the party continued the celebration at Alicia Keys’ concert at United Palace in New York with Swizz Beatz, the singer’s husband.
The first African and Arab country to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup, Morocco resisted Croatia (finalist in 2018), beat Belgium, Canada who returned to the World Cup 36 years later, dominated Spain (champion in 2010) in a penalty shootout (0-0, p.s. 3-0) and beat Portugal (1-0) before reaching this stage of the competition. The Atlas Lions will play against the Blues on Wednesday, December 14.
