Moroccan Ambassador Skips Spanish King’s Diplomatic Reception, Raising Questions About Relations

The Moroccan ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, was absent from the traditional reception offered by King Felipe VI in honor of the diplomatic corps stationed in the country, once again leaving doubts about the quality of relations between the two countries.
The ceremony was held at the Royal Palace in Madrid in the presence in particular of Queen Letizia, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, according to the EFE news agency.
Since May 18, 2021, when Morocco had recalled its ambassador to Spain for consultation, she has still not returned to her post in Madrid, the media points out.
Questioned by El Diario about this absence, José Manuel Albares simply evaded the question, highlighting "the good relationship" he maintains with his Moroccan counterpart with whom he "exchanges regularly".
