Moroccan Ambassador Meets Macron, Signaling Thaw in France-Morocco Relations

After several months of diplomatic tensions, the Rabat-Paris axis is strengthening. Samira Sitaïl, Morocco’s new ambassador to France, went to present her credentials to French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Moroccan ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitaïl, is expected to present her credentials to French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, January 8 late in the morning, in the presence of her collaborators. On this occasion, she should "exchange" with the French head of state on Franco-Moroccan relations, reports Altasinfo.
Samira Sitail was appointed by King Mohammed VI last October, a year after the departure of the last holder of the post, Mohamed Benchaâboun. A former journalist and former director of information at 2M, then deputy general director of the same channel, she has largely contributed to the development of Moroccan television. Born in France in 1964, she becomes the first woman to hold this high position. Her mastery of the Moroccan political field and economic and social issues, as well as her solid knowledge of the French political landscape, will allow her to be up to the task of her mission.
The taking up of office by Samira Sitail marks a new era in the diplomatic relations between Morocco and France, formerly cooled due in particular to Paris’ reluctance to recognize the Moroccanness of the Sahara, as countries like the United States, Israel and Spain have already done.
