Moroccan Actor Released on Bail After Controversial Religious Video Sparks Outrage
Actor Rafik Boubker was released on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, after being granted provisional release. He had to pay a bail of 5,000 DH.
By decision of the Casablanca prosecutor’s office, the comedian was taken into custody. On Monday, May 25, he posted a tendentious video on his Instagram account against the Muslim religion and places of worship, which led to his arrest.
On Tuesday, he posted a new video in which he apologized profusely. His placement in custody sparked a wave of solidarity and support on social media. Internet users called for leniency from the judicial authorities.
On Wednesday, Rafik Boubker was granted provisional release on bail. He is still being prosecuted and faces up to two years in prison, specifies Le360.
