Moroccan Actor Rafik Boubker to Face Court Over Controversial Religious Video

Prosecuted on provisional release for blasphemy, attack on the Muslim religion, contempt of a legal authority and violation of the state of health emergency, the Moroccan actor Rafik Boubker will have to appear on July 14 before the court of first instance of Casablanca.
The subject of several complaints following a controversial video, the Moroccan actor had been released on provisional release on May 27, after paying a bail of 5,000 dirhams. Previously, a judicial investigation had been opened by the public prosecutor’s office for non-respect of Islam and its places of worship.
The comedian did not have to wait long to make his mea culpa, since the day after the publication, he had apologized to the public, claiming to have acted under the influence of alcohol.
Under Article 5-267 of the Moroccan Penal Code, the actor faces a sentence of 5 years in prison and a fine of up to 500,000 dirhams, especially with the presence of aggravating circumstances.
