Moroccan Activists Push for Death Penalty Abolition Ahead of Elections

A virtual meeting on Tuesday brought together Moroccan associations advocating for the abolition of the death penalty. Objective: to prepare the plea to future elected officials with a view to definitively abolishing this penalty.
Take advantage of the upcoming elections to raise awareness among future elected officials on the issue of human rights, particularly the issue of the death penalty. This is the motivation of these organizations that gathered around the theme: "Parliamentarians at the service of freedoms and the right to life".
During the discussions, the participants reviewed the progress made in this struggle as well as the actions taken, arguing that "the abolition of the death penalty is a binding constitutional commitment for all actors in different fields".
Furthermore, the organizations expressed their satisfaction to see this issue increasingly present on the political scene and in particular within the parliament, through the written and oral questions of the members of the two Chambers.
The entry of this issue into the hemicycle "is the result of a methodical work carried out by the creation of a set of collectives," they concluded.
